April 23, 2013: A day in the Swiss Alps
Lauterbrunnen is a city in the Interlaken area of the Obernese Alps. It is the valley between the mountains that was made by the biggest glacier in the Alps region. The valley views are just as breathtaking as being up in the mountains themselves. When we were planning our trip visiting this area was a no brainer!
Lauterbrunnen is down in the valley and is so gorgeous. We bought some lunch and had a picnic just looking up at all the mountains and all the green valleys.
We took the lift up out of the valley to reach the little town of Murren. I just couldn't get over how green the valley was below.
Once up to the top of the mountain we took a train ride around for even more views. It was a fairy clear day, but there were a few low laying clouds that covered the peaks of the big 3 mountains unfortunately.
Just a look out of the train window and there is this beauty to look at!
Murren, elevation of 5,413 feet, is accessible by one of the many ski lifts out of Lauterbrunnen. It is a tiny little village that only has a population of 450 people--and trust me there was no one around. But don't worry they have 32 miles of ski runs and 14 ski lifts of fun! What is so neat about this village is that on a clear day views of the three towering mountains the Alps are known for (Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau) and can seen. Once we got up to Murren we walked around, drank fresh glacier water, watched some crazy guys base jumping, and just looked at all the beautiful surroundings.
Seriously, I felt like we had these mountains to ourselves!
Fresh glacier water!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this picture of us!!
We watched the guys base jumping for awhile---so crazy!
Yum. Ever since I was a little kid we would get this Swiss Chocolate in our stockings at Christmas time. I had to take this picture for my mom!

Once we were back down in the valley of Lauterbrunnen we couldn't pass by this picture of the most beautiful scenery I have laid eyes on!! The huge mountains above, the green valley, an old church, a river running through the valley. The colors of everything were so intense. I know I keep saying how beautiful everything was, but oh how it was!!
This picture of Nick makes me laugh! He was always behind us. When I would tell him to hurry up how could I get mad with the "I'm just trying to take it all in" response.
